how to add flight itinerary to google calendar

Is there a way to add flight itinerary from Gmail to Google Calendar?

Seems odd to me that Gmail can provide a handy card in the flight confirmation email: http://imgur.com/enSQjzA

But not offer a way to import it into Google Calendar.

If you give google permission to add information from emails to google now it automatically adds it to your calendar. That how it worked for me for 4 flights the past 6 months.

I had trouble getting this to work at first. In my case, I had my flight confirmation emails going to a non-gmail address, which then forwarded directly to my gmail address (a spam mitigation technique that's worked pretty well). Google says "Events won't show up if the email was forwarded to you or sent to a mailing list. The email has to be sent directly to you." When I sent the confirmation directly to my gmail address, it worked perfectly.

I have the emails to Google Now permission enabled. Just checked and I have calendar items for the 3 flights and 2 hotels I booked for next month.

I also have the handy cards in all the Inbox items, and I imagine there will be Google Now cards when the time comes. Overall very well integrated.

I had been sending the .ics calendar objects to myself for ages. Suddenly it stopped working and I couldn't figure out why. Turns out it stopped working because I switched to Google Inbox instead of Gmail. So when I sent the mail from Inbox, the "Add to calendar" alternative would not appear whether I tried doing it from Gmail or Inbox. But when I finally switched to composing and sending the mail from Gmail instead of Inbox, the "Add to calendar" option reappeared. But only if I also open the mail from Gmail. I'm disappointed that Inbox doesn't support this, but hopefully this functionality will appear eventually.
